Kitten Noir drops an ordinary house cat into a world of shadows, stakeouts, and stolen sandwiches. A sock heist. An underbed stakeout. A sudden sprint at the camera. Each short borrows the visual language of crime thrillers and superhero films - the moody lighting, deadpan voice-over, cinematic framing - and points it at something that fits in the palm of your hand.
This absurdity has a double edge. The shorts are a distraction, light, asking nothing of you, made for fun and silliness. And, they borrow from two genres with heavy messages.
1. Noir’s moral shadows, ambiguity and a fundamentally compromised world.
2. Superhero myths and ideals of justice, equity, and struggle to ask Who gets to be a hero?and Who says so?".
This kitten - in a world of moral bleakness, questionable truths, and bad choices all around - also in a role historically meant to bring light and justice - opens a discussion about what happens when those ideas are projected onto something so small, everyday, and silly? Is the everyday just too small and insignificant to tackle big problems?
